Department Chair: Bruce Ritchey

The philosophy of the Agriculture curriculum is to meet the needs of students who have an interest in agriculture as a career. It is the purpose of this Framework to offer a diversified curriculum, providing an opportunity to develop marketable skills which will prepare the student to enter the job market or to continue to a higher level of education.

GOALS

  • Occupational Awareness. Students will become familiar with the occupational opportunities in agriculture in Ventura County and California.
  • Job Skills Development. Students will develop skills essential to gain entry-level employment.
  • Personal Development. Students will recognize and develop leadership skills, citizenship skills, and positive work attitudes.
  • Agriculture Economic Awareness. Students will understand the role of agriculture in the American economy.
  • Academic Skills. Students will learn academic skills necessary to be able to achieve success at a university, a community college, or a vocational technical school.

OBJECTIVES

  • Students will develop awareness of occupational opportunities in agriculture through classroom instruction and by researching such occupations in campus career centers, libraries, and in the community.
  • Students will demonstrate skills necessary to gain entry-level employment.
  • Students will practice leadership skills through their involvement in the Future Farmers of America.
  • Students will be aware of the role of agriculture in the American economy by doing research and by class participation and discussion with persons in the agriculture business.
  • Students will be made aware of admissions requirements of colleges and be counseled to take the courses necessary to meet these requirements.
